Materiality is an essential quality in books, one that directly influences the reading experience. A book is not read the same on paper as it is on a screen. Nor is a book read the same in a large format as in a smaller format. Hence the question: How does reading change when content and materiality merge into an inseparable whole?
I design books that take into account the physical space, the materiality, the tangible aspect of reading. I am interested in ensuring that the interaction of the hands with the object is thoughtful and has a specific purpose, so that reading on paper is not purely coincidental or conventional.
